The celebration: Emmett turns 3

Emmett's birthday was so fun, simply because this year he really understood, anticipated and enjoyed the festivities.  The morning of his birthday we went to the free showing of The Lego Movie at the mall with his buddy, Ethan, and his family.  It felt appropriate since the main character's name is Emmett (but with different spelling).  Our afternoon was pretty low-key and included decorating the cake and riding his bike at the park.

Fortunately, Clark was able to get back from Goldsboro (the site of his current clinical rotation) in time to do cake and presents.  Connie & Chris joined us for the fun.  Emmett was thrilled about his cake and (overload of) presents.  He got spoiled by his parents with a tub of (consigned) Duplos, a non-working [sorry!] battery-operated violin (also consigned--he'd been asking for a violin for months), new toothbrushes (dollar store) and a tennis racket (hooray for something new and legit!).  Friends and family spoiled him with art supplies, Thomas the Train dishes, a stomp rocket and Candy Land.
Big bite of a tall cake!
Thumbs up approval!  (Though he only ate two bites...too distracted by presents!)
He was actually pretty stoked about these toothbrushes.  After all, they stick to the mirror!
The next day Emmett and Clark continued celebrating with "classy" fun at the Northgate Mall thanks to the birthday perks that come with being in the Little Shopper's Club.  He rode the train and the carousel, got cheap toys that he adores, ate ice cream and got father/son Duke hats.  Not a bad life, I tell ya.
